Slipknot- Dead Memories (good video review)

Slipknot is an American heavy metal band from Des Moines, Iowa, formed in 1995. The band consists of nine members their names are Sid Wilson, Joey Jordison, Paul Gray, Chris Fehn, Jim Root, Craig Jones, Shawn Crahan, Mick Thomson, and Corey Taylor. Slipknot is well recognized by their unique masks.

These are the lyrics for the song.

Sitting in the dark, I can't forget.
Even now, I realize the time I'll never get
Another story of the bitter pills of fate
I can't go back again
I can't go back again
But you asked me to love you, and I did.
Traded my emotions for a contract to commit
And when I got away, I only got so far
The other me is dead
I hear his voice inside my head
And we were never alive
And we won't be born again
But I'll never survive

With dead memories in my heart
Dead memories in my heart
Dead memories in my heart

You told me to love you, and I did.
Tied my soul into a knot and got me to submit
So when I got away, I only kept my scars
The other me is gone
Now I don't know where I belong
And we were never alive
And we won't be born again
But I'll never survive

With dead memories in my heart
Dead memories in my heart
Dead memories in my heart
Dead memories in my heart
Dead visions in your name
Dead fingers in my veins
Dead memories in my heart
Dead memories in my heart
Dead memories in my heart
Dead memories in my heart

This video is about a person that is really lonely and someone obviously broke his heart. I really like this song because it's raw and different. I like the instrumental value and the way the song flows together. I think that the video is perfect for the song because it introduces that he is lonely and is looking for a way out but, he runs into complications and he doesn't know what to do but run. I like how it shows a glimps of every band member. The video has really unique angels and unique props used. I like how it is twisted and sad at the same time each person also keep trying to pull him back and make him stay. I like the emotion portraied in this video. The graphics are really well done and the video was well done.

I like how the music flows with the video, it helps the viewer unsderstand what is going on. It says the he won't go back and when he is digging at the starting it's almost like he dug himself to hell and that is where he is now. He is stuck in hell and he is running from everything. The way that he drops into the room was really cool and how he goes through eatch room and they are all different. It makes you think what it would be like to be him in the moment. What it would be like to be there and seeing the guy climbing on the wall around you. What would you think? Would you be scared? Would you being mortified? It's questionable to think about.

He is ls looking through the window and it's black it's almost like he can't go anwhere and that scares him so he resortes to the door. In the second room he goes in and sees the jesus looking guy around tounds of women and they are pampering him and I think that he must feel sad about this because he got hurt and is really upset about this. In the third room he goes in and it's all inverted. He walks up to this guy and he is just standing there, I'd call him needle head because he has them sticking out all over the place. He puts something into the needles and it makes a cool effect. The fourth room is a room full of mirrors and he looks frightened and in the lyrics it says that he doesn't know where he belongs and it makes sence. While he is looking around the guy breaks the mirror so he cannot see him and he then falls into the next room. In this room there is the scary clown guy and he is walking around with a baseball bat and a whole bunch of women. The women keep trying to hold him back yet again. The sixth room is the metal face guy, he is standing at the end of a narrow room with a door and he is as big as it. I think that this intimidates him because he cannot get past. He tried but fails at first. Then he makes it through to the seventh room where the guy with the white face is in a room with women and feathers and they are standing and looking at eachother and they are confused. It kind of makes you think of heaven rather than hell. Then he goes into the last room with the guy and the long nose and he is lighing candles and there is writing all over the walls. They are looking at eachother and then he blows out the candle. It's like it was a dream but it actually happened. Then he is back to digging the hole and he comes out of the hole and back into th world. It is a really good video.

Oblivion- Mastodon

Mastodons is a Greek word meaning beast, this is where the band got their name from. Mastodon is an American heavy metal band from Atlanta, Georgia. They formed the band in 1999, consisting the members bassist/vocalist Troy Sanders, guitarist/vocalist Brent Hinds, guitarist Bill Kelliher and drummer Brann Dailor. The band formed when the drummer Brann and the guitarist Bill moved to Atlanta meeting the other band members at a High On Fire Show. They realized they had the same interest in music and shortly after formed the band. They currently have three albums released Leviathan (2004–2005), Blood Mountain (2006–2008) and Crack the Skye (2009–present).

This song starts slow and then starts to build up. It has good instrumental value, and good use of different harmonies. The starting only starts with the lead guitar and the rhythm guitar using a great harmonic melody and then the drums come in. At about 31 seconds into the song the vocals come in, the vocals are clean throughout the whole song. They have a good mix between singing and playing and the instruments are not over done. I think that this song is particularly good, but the solo could be better.

The solo in this song is more calm then I would like it to be and is really short. It is really simple, if they put in come sweeping I think it would bring more to it and make the song more interesting. They do the same cords over and over again, it is very repetitive. The lyrics are very repetitive as well they only have two verses throughout the whole song and the wrest chorus. I don't think that this song really makes sense because he is talking about falling into oblivion and then he is talking about falling from grace? It doesn't really mix.

Overall I like this song because it has a good vibe from it. I like how the instruments mix and flow throughout the song. It is not really my type of music I generally like more heavy metal music, but it is good. I think that they did well with the starting the most. How it fades in and the instruments are introduced into the song, this gives it a good effect. If I were to rate this song I would give it 3 stars out of 5.

Golden Years- David Bowie

A little about David Bowie and the song. This song by David Bowie was composed in 1975. It was origionally released as a shortened single in November of 1975 and was released in it's full length on the album Station to Staion in January 1976. This album was made in David Bowie's addiction to cocain years.

This song has a slow buldup at the starting with precussion and guitar then it starts to get a lot more levels of instruments. The layers built more and more as the song goes on and then the singing comes in. I don't really get all of the different sounds in the music i don't really like it. This song kind of gives me a jazz, funk or soal feel. The harmoney is kind of random but it does fit with the melody. I think that this song is complimentary because all of the instruments go well together, they have a nice flow.

I personally don't like the song because I don't listen to this type of music and I don't like who they sing about the same thing over and over again. I don't like the chours because they repeat it over and over as well at the end of the song. I think that this sounds tacky and I don't like it. The first chorus comes into the song at about 45 seconds into the song and then again at 1 minute and 31 seconds. Then again at 2 minutes and 35 seconds they repeat themselves too many times. I swear they have said Golden years about 300 times in this song. But, I counted it's only 20 it feels like a lot more. Personally I don't feel for the lyrics either for some reason they don't make any sence.

I think he is singing about and angel at one point then about something totally different I think that it may not make sence because he was on cocain at the time when he made this song. That may have made some sort of impact to why it pretty much doesn't make sence. Usually when you like a song the lyris, riffs or hooks catch you and you remember the song but, with this song i didn't get caught on anything. This song is very simple and complex as well, I think if they would have made it more appealing and used more instruments it would have been better.

White Walls-BTBAM (Between the buried and me) And Fossil Genera

This song is by Between the Buried and Me who are an American band from North Carolina. They first became a band in Raleigh, North Carolina by the vocalist Tommy Rogers. The other people in their band are Paul Waggoner (guitarist), Will Goodyear (drummer), Nick Fletcher (guitarist) and Jason King (bassist). They made the album Colors and released it on September 18, 2007. This album only consists of eight songs and was named album of the year by Ultimate Guitar.com. The songs on the album are:

1. Foam Born (a) The Backtrack" – 2:13
2. Foam Born (b) The Decade of Statues" – 5:20
3. Informal Gluttony" – 6:47
4. Sun of Nothing" – 10:59
5. Ants of the Sky" – 13:10
6. Prequel to the Sequel" – 8:36
7. Viridian" – 2:51
8. White Walls" – 14:13

White Walls is the longest song on the album and is my favrouite. They are one of the most amazing artists out there. In my opinion they have so much diversity and they are so tallented. I really love thier new album "The Great Misdirect" and it has even more amazing songs than any other album. They just keep getting better and better. The best song on the album I think is Fossil Genera. It is a simple song about them taking over the world and no one knows about it.

This song is very complicated and complex at the same time. The lyrics are:

Beyond the satellites:
Sweet candy populous...a worry free entrance into the world's history.
Never underestimate...never think beyond their thoughts.
The satellites have been trapped and Cloud Mountain will carry on the commands of our ancestors.

Indeed we work from here. We have for centuries...hearing every breath...watching every disease.(You must accept this truth)

Below the satellites:
The leaders are driving to the farthest retreat. Sit back, relax, enjoy the ride.
They have been speaking for years.
Every night while you are asleep they have been discussing what the future holds for us all.
The outer space takeover. Worlds collide in a dreary pre-determined idea brought by our fellow night owls.
Their stories have been mocked...their ideas have been crushed...but after last night they control every idea we will think from here on out.

A government overthrown...
We have come to tell you all that we could have prepared for this.

The night owl speaks overhead:
The apocalypse(at least our apocalypse)will happen sooner than we think if we don't read the journals our station has prepared for you all.
We call ourselves the "night owls". We've roamed the earth for years and kept your world afloat.
We've made it so you stay comfortable in your precious homes.
While you sleep,we discuss. Discuss our future...your future.

Our journals give detailed instructions on the machines and weapons we must build.
These are weapons that none of you would even begin to think could harm the outside world...Everything you know is false...your first instinct is now your last.
Like I've said before...we have been discussing and planning this for decades.(Trust is essential)
We don't have time to explain everything, but just know that everything will soon change.

Trust us and we will all be safe. We are the new government.

Before the satellites:
In simple times we must take control.
With simple skies we create...more sky.
A simple land we must change...for man...is god.
A simple life we must break...
How fast we grow...
We must move on.

This song is very complicated and I don't really have any idea what the lyrics are about. I can pick and choose from it and kinda of understand. They are:

The monsters are made,
and we have proven that we will be one of them.
The whores take the stage...flash our skills...
gotta draw 'em in...gotta keep 'em on their toes...
don't show them how you truly are...who would want honesty...
who would want a group of people that one can relate with.
We need worship, we need devotion...
becoming gods from the image that is thrown...
thrown out in their everyday lives to comfort...
it's not a musical journey anymore...
they chose Camilla and we stood by her the entire time...
monotonous expression...a forced replica of a tired sound...
puppets for a greed-driven carnival...
the same charade as the passing years...
force me out there. Don't give them a chance.
They want to be fed...fed a simple replication of past greatness.
(Things have changed...we have changed.
Personal happiness is what we strive to achieve...
so you can love or hate...it won't change a thing for us.)

Step back. Evaluate. Recognize.

We just need to throw some new ideas in...
(It) will eventually get out of this closed off circle we are part of...
it's all the same.
This is all we have when we die.
It's what's left of us when we die.
We will be remembered for this.

White wall

I think it is basically saying that people mis recodnize eachother and that people could become images that they see like a god. They are saying that pepople take things for granted and that all they want is money. It's saying you can love or hate that no one really cares about anyone but themselves. We will eventually die and not even know what he had, that we will really don't know what he have until we don't have it anymore. White walls is just a room that people are stuck in and you have to live with it.
